The College of Hospitality and Tourism organized training on waste management, environmental awareness, waste sorting, and creating a sustainable ecosystem for the local community and public sector to promote green tourism.

On September 4-5, 2024, Assist. Prof. Fapilai Taweesinsopa, Director of the College of Hospitality and Tourism (CHT), presided over the opening ceremony of a training program on waste management for green tourism development. This program is part of the project “From Crisis to Adaptation: Developing High-Quality Marine Tourism in the Gulf of Thailand-Andaman through the Development of a Modern Learning Ecosystem, Technology, and Innovation.” Activity 1.2 specifically focused on enhancing the management of accommodations to meet Green Hotel standards, with a particular emphasis on community engagement. The training was honored by guest speakers, including Asst. Prof. Dr. Chanika Saenge Chooklin, Miss Kattinat Sagulsawasdipan, a lecturer from the Faculty of Science and Environment, Dr. Suyaporn Sortrakul, a lecturer from the College of Tourism and Hospitality, and Khun Boonjongrak Jiwtan, Manager of the Royal Initiative Waste Management and Wastewater Treatment Technology Transfer Center, Southern Region.    

The activities included lectures on community and marine waste, sources and impacts, waste sorting guidelines, integrated waste management in tourism destinations, CHT and volunteer-led beach cleanups. Additionally, a workshop on creating value from waste materials focused on reducing, reusing, and compensating toward achieving net-zero carbon emissions and promoting green tourism in the future.
