RUTS Elevates Marine Tourism Training to International Standards

Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS) is taking a significant step in enhancing marine tourism training programs for the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, aiming for international standards. This initiative is a collaboration between the Faculty of Industrial Education and Technology (Songkhla), the College of Industrial Technology and Management (Nakhon Si Thammarat), and the College of Hospitality and Tourism (Trang), three key institutions dedicated to developing skilled professionals in the tourism and hospitality sector.

On March 25–26, 2025, RUTS held a curriculum development and enhancement meeting, presided over by Asst. Prof. Dr. Khwanhathai Jaipiam, Vice President of RUTS Nakhon Si Thammarat Campus, with the participation of Asst. Prof. Chaiya Thanapatsiri, Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Education and Technology, and Asst. Prof. Fapilai Thaveesinsopha, Director of the College of Hospitality and Tourism, along with faculty members and staff from all three institutions.

The objective of this initiative is to modernize and align the training programs with the evolving tourism industry and current labor market demands. The focus is on developing specialized skills for tourism professionals, enhancing their competencies, and establishing training standards that meet both national and international industry requirements.

The updated curriculum will be offered through RUTS MOOC, an online learning platform that provides flexible and accessible educational opportunities. The curriculum covers diverse fields related to the tourism industry, including Professional Photography, Advanced Bartending, Branding and Identity Design, Barista Certification, and Camping Management.

This collaboration marks a pivotal step toward elevating training standards, strengthening the capabilities of tourism professionals to compete on a global scale, and reinforcing Thailand’s position as a premier high-quality tourism destination. Additionally, it fosters academic cooperation among RUTS institutions to develop curricula that truly cater to industry needs and labor market trends.
