College of Hospitality and Tourism Drives Local Wisdom: Organizes Value-Added Activities Using Paper Bark under the RSPG Project

On June 17, 2025, Assistant Professor Nutchanat Tupkrut and Assistant Professor Sukpitchaya Boonkuer, lecturers at the College of Hospitality and Tourism (CHT), Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS), jointly organized the project “Adding Value to Paper Bark.” This project is a part of the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the Royal initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn (RSPG).

The project focuses on the sustainable conservation and utilization of local resources through community-based learning processes, aiming to add value to paper bark and promote the creative development of community products.

On this occasion, Dr.Jutuporn Hokta, Deputy Director for Administration and Planning, opened the ceremony, joined by more than 20 participants from the local community who took part in the activity.

The activities included a variety of lectures and workshops conducted by expert speakers, such as: making mosquito repellent from paper bark, extracting essential oils from white paper bark flowers, producing soap and natural tie-dyed fabrics from paper bark, and a panel discussion on “Strategies for Adding Value to Paper Bark.”

The activities featured breakout learning groups supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Khwanta Tantikamton and Associate Professor Dr. Chutinut Sujarit. This project marks a significant step for the college in promoting local wisdom for sustainable development, while fostering community engagement in the balanced conservation and utilization of natural resources.
